What is trauma-sensitive yoga?

Trauma-sensitive yoga uses physical postures & movements in a way that emphasizes safety, empowers choice, and provides practices and tools for mind/body integration. This kind of yoga can encourage nervous system regulation through both standing and sitting postures. This type of yoga also encourages you to notice when you feel safe, soothed, and secure. Part of the skill of a trauma-informed teacher is to facilitate present-state awareness and offer opportunities for you to choose what brings you peace and or balance. Over time, trauma-sensitive yoga can help you build coping skills and make choices that support you transition from hyper- or hypo-arousal to a balanced, more connected, embodied state of being.

The postures & movements will be trauma-sensitive, meaning you will always having the choice of how and whether to participate. You will always be offered a way to give yourself a pause and return to practice as or when you are ready. Breathing practices are a part of trauma-sensitive classes; you can grow more confident and aware of your breath—as the breath connects your mind and your body.

Our trauma-sensitive yoga facilitators are registered yoga teachers and recommend that trauma-sensitive yoga classes not replace licensed talk therapy but can be supplemental.

what is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a gentle, slow-paced style of yoga that focuses on relaxation and stillness to promote physical and mental wellness. It's different from more active yoga styles that focus on strength or flexibility, and instead emphasizes comfort and finding poses that feel good. Restorative yoga sessions often involve holding poses for five to ten minutes or longer, with the help of props like blankets, bolsters, or blocks.

Our restorative yoga classes invite you to come to class with the intention of relaxation. Our goal is to facilitate safe, calm, and comfortable poses that help you relax every part of your body.

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga is a foundational style of yoga that balances physical postures, breath control, and meditation to promote overall well-being. It emphasizes the alignment of the body and the cultivation of strength and flexibility through a series of asanas (postures). Hatha classes typically include a variety of poses held for several breaths, allowing for a deeper connection to the body and mind.

Our Hatha Yoga classes are designed for participants of all levels, providing a supportive environment to explore. Each session focuses on mindful movement, proper alignment, and breath awareness, encouraging you to cultivate a sense of calm and presence.
