our family’s story to Aftermath agency
You may have noticed, if you looked at the page regarding our team, that a lot of the team shares the same last name. No, the reason is not that my partner and I wanted our children gainfully employed….
The idea for Aftermath Agency did indeed begin as a family business idea. It was born out of my family dealing with the aftermath of a constellation of issues. Over the span of a few years, my family experienced several crises that sent us all reeling, trying to cope and survive in our own ways. Each member of my family has been on their own complex path to healing. Healing involved not only each individual seeking care and doing their own work, but also addressing issues within the system of the family.
I am grateful our family emerged from what we did intact, more connected, and whole. We’ve had to face a lot of hard things, both externally, from harm done to us, and internally, addressing harm done within our family to one another. The work has been gut-wrenching, humbling, and we’ve gone deep with it into places we never expected to go.
Our individual and collective journey has involved multiple modalities to assist and aid in our healing, wholeness, and flourishing. Finding care proved, at various times, to be nearly a full-time job. What if we could bring our diverse experiences, training, expertise, and interests to help simplify that exhausting and time-consuming process?
What if we could provide hope that healing can extend into systems, not just remain an individual endeavor?
In the process of the formation of Aftermath, we met Trisha and learned her story. Her family has also experienced the aftermath of a lot of hard things and done hard work to heal. She shares our passion and dream for not only helping individuals access and find what they need to heal and flourish, but also helping families and other systems do so as well. We are excited to see how, over time, the “family” aspect of this work expands.
When an individual heals, it has ripple effects on systems. When a system heals, those ripples extend further out, creating more flourishing and healing in their wake.
We have lived the work. We continue to do the work. Each individual on our team has experienced their own pain and has a unique take, angle, and perspective. Regardless of where you are on your journey, or who is (or isn’t) with you on it, we want to offer you hope that healing can indeed happen. Ruptures can be repaired. That which has been broken or forever altered can emerge transformed into something new, authentic, strong, resilient, and, yes, beautiful.
Here hoping for your future flourishing within yourself and your systems,
Kimberly Crispeno, MACP, MDIV, LMHCA
