“Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you - all of the expectations, all of the beliefs - and becoming who you are.”
— Rachel Naomi Remen, MD
I have always been very strong and passionate about things that matter to me. When I set my mind on something, I work hard to make it happen. I am particularly passionate about justice and I want the underdog to succeed. Although you may see my passionate energy more easily—I also have a soft, tender, and compassionate side that drives me.
I went to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles for my undergraduate studies and earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a Minor in Theological Studies. After that, I moved to the Midwest and attended Washington University in St. Louis for my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. During one of my rotations in physical therapy school, I met my partner, Sean. Not long after, Sean and I ended up back in my hometown of Seattle. We now own and run our personal training business and gym, TRAIN Seattle.
I much prefer phone calls to text. I’m in for a breakfast/lunch date over evening plans, as I’m not much of a night-owl, and will inevitably fall asleep if watching a movie or TV show too late. Right now, I’m working on doing more of what brings me joy. A few things that do: sharing a morning coffee over our books with Sean, traveling somewhere fun and new (bonus if with friends!)—or dancing my way through a task.
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and personal trainer, (to no surprise) I love to move. You’ll find me spending a lot of time moving in some way (whether that be through strength training, running, walking…) On that note, I’m also super curious about how our bodies heal and how they strengthen. I’ve been influenced and inspired by the work of Rachel Naomi Remen, MD. In her book My Grandfather’s Blessings, she talks about strengthening the life in other people. She says: “We strengthen life at any time that we listen generously or encourage someone to find meaning, or wonder about possibility, or dream or hope or escape from self-judgement and inner criticism, or know that they matter.” This is what I’m trying to do for myself, and hope to bring to all of my clients in some way or another.
As a specialized practitioner in pelvic floor physical therapy and chronic pain treatment, my professional journey has not necessarily been ordinary. I quickly realized after starting my career in a generalized outpatient orthopedic setting that the system I was operating within didn’t “fit” me. Despite the love I had for my patients, I felt confined within a box that prevented me from fully expressing my passion for helping people in pain. It was only when I stepped outside of this box that I truly began to thrive and refine my specialization. I believe that pain and physical symptoms are the language of our bodies. I find so much joy in assisting individuals in understanding and listening to this language, empowering them to develop personalized methods of healing and existence that honor their individual experiences. I am committed to seeing, validating, and giving hope to those I get to partner with in their care.
Your experience in physical therapy with me will be non-traditional. I spend a lot of time getting to know the people I work with in order to better help them recognize, understand, and transform their experience with pain. If you’re interested in a different approach to understanding your body and it’s language, I’d be thrilled to examine that with you and see what we find.
